Most auctionioneers regardless if it's 24/48 or 48/24 will have it as 48 single bidder and 24 multi.

The ones who post 24/48 are just dyslexic!

There's no rule against either way though. Just interpretation.

kind of defeats the purpose of having whichever number first.. i personally like 24/48 cause if there's more than one bidder it gives people time to consider their bids, people who are busy with life and work, their families etc

    to each their own

This only really gets brought up once every year which makes the whole thing pretty moot. If there's uncertainty on the bidders side, ask for clarification.

48 hours after the first bid should be plenty of time for any other would be bidders to determine if they're interested. 24 hours for multi then anyone who already is interested is already aware. If not, then obviously that person has priorities out of UO and they should focus on those if they don't have 5 minutes a day to catch up on UO auctions. People have done 24/12 style auctions and other variations. It's up to the OP. If someone wants to take others work life and families into consideration then they can do that too. Otherwise I like quick style auctions even if I don't get maximum profit.
