New player to shard, getting back into playing UO, looking to buy a house on Ocllo while still in the "young" program. Preferably one of those currently mostly empty marbles closer to town so I can run some vendors. :) Then again, who's gonna wanna buy all my noobie crap. Maybe I'll sell resources? Anyway... Not sure how much this might cost to be honest, but I'd really like a house, so hoping this might spur someone to sell a building they aren't using. I can probably only pay you in gold -- but ask if there's something else you want and I'll see what I can do.

Hate to disappoint you, OHJ, but you haven't a cat in hell's chance of buying a place in Occlo unless you have millions to spare. Only the top 1% own places there (and I'm certainly not in that league). If you ask around, though, you might get the chance to place a vendor. I seem to remember someone asking about that recently. You might ask PS if there are any possibilities ... Good luck in saving for a house, though, and welcome to the shard! :)

Yeah Ocllo housing is prime housing and rarely goes for sale.

I have a Oc house you can crash at, and one you could macro provo at if that helps.

    Neither are great vendor locations.

Some months ago, one could buy a house for 500k in Ocllo. That's not the world. However, it is much easier to collect ressources (cloth, ore, bones, etc) and sell them via the trade forum.

All, thanks for your answers. Very disappointing news though. Why such high prices for the mostly empty, unused places? I could understand a bit of mark up, but millions?!? Hell, I probably won't have millions by the time my counter for the "young" program ends, at which point leaving Ocllo seems like the way to go. What's the chance of placing a house, or acquiring one without millions of gold, if I leave Ocllo (and presumably the "young" program)? Should I leave early to get housing?

I don't want to whine, but I can't see wanting to continue to play this shard if I can't acquire a house.(

Leave Ocllo as soon as you know what you are doing. So, if you are experienced from other shards or OSI, just build your first toons and leave that place as soon as possible. The young programm is for new players only, and usuallly holds back experienced players. There are many many spots available outside, and you can place up to a large tower, although the tower may need a bit effort.

Ocllo simply wasn't designed to enable big housing. The few houses there are owned by vets and people that can maintain vendors.

Ocllo is just the beginning of your adventure. Go out.

PS: Your other two accounts can still be in the young program, while you explore the world on your third account.

Don't worry about not being able to place a house in Occlo. You will find MANY spots to place anything up to a large tower like BlackEye said, you just won't find them on Ocllo. But that's a good thing because once you're out of the new player program you won't need to go to Ocllo much or even have it be part of your play. You'll have a long tenure here on UOR believe me, and you will look back on this time and realize you didn't need that Ocllo house. Just keep getting gold and advancing your character and the good times will follow.

My first house here was a log cabin east of yew gate and I was lumberjacking when I saw BlackEye before I knew who he was. I quickly ran to my cabin with my wood haul thinking I'd be pk'd. He hid and since he wasn't mounted I guessed he was a thief. I waited long enough for him to have enough time to stealth onto my porch if he was going to and sure enough I revealed and there he was! Sneaky little guy! I can still see him running off my porch before the ban hit him (totally irrelevant to this thread I guess, but felt like sharing!)

If you ever want to develop a thief, Ocllo's the place to get started. So many good targets, and quite a few are afk.
