Couple of thief bugs I have come across:

    - Stealing from a pack animal guarding you turns you grey
    - 48 hour in game timer to join the thief's guild (not a bug just a very poopy feature)
    - When stealing from a monster it will always steal a portion of the stack of gold and not just the whole pile if possible. Will always force you to steal down to 1 coin

you can steal from mobs?? that could be nice steal gold from bigger mobs.

48 hours should be just a few nights macroing stealing (moves pretty slow) and hiding/stealth. ive had same problem as muffin man. i get system message that mule is guarding me but i go grey.

This is a known issue, along with some other notoriety changes that need to be made. Expect this fix in the next week or so.

    Thanks for the report.

Should be able to steal and jump town gates

Stealing stacked items seems to be off (especially lower increment piles)

should be able steal random items from monsters instead of just gold

perma might be messed up, I was definitely perma, and when Shark attacked me in town, he was guardwhacked

that's all I've noticed so far

Everything Jack of Shadows said ran contradictory to what I remembered, so I researched the statements:

    Not if you're flagged criminal.

[An issue involving grey thieves being able to steal and use moongates has been fixed. (Such thieves must wait until they return to blue before using a moongate.)]

Until now I have only ever played by T2A rules but afaik stealing calculations were the same in T2A and UO:R. It has always been my understanding that when targeting a stack, even one weighing more than 10 stones, the amount attempted is a random amount between 1 stone and the maximum based on the skill of the thief (10 for GM) and then the skill check is made. The amount attempted was calculated on a bell curve however, which meant you almost always got a result in the middle range. This is why stack stealing was not an effective method of gaining stealing skill at higher levels, because at 80+ it would only very rarely attempt an amount that could result in a skill gain. It has also always been my understanding that when random stealing, not all items are considered equal and the chances of even attempting to steal anything weighing more than 10 stones (when there are other items in a pack) is greatly reduced. Afaik when successfully random stealing stacked items, you got a percentage which could be as low as 1 or as high as the entire pile (unless you couldn't carry the entire pile in which case you'd fail a weight check before even attempting) but again the formula used a bell curve so it was extremely rare to get very high or very low results, almost always giving you something in the middle, which explains why as the stack gets smaller you keep getting diminshing returns. I have no patch notes to support these statements but this is what I've heard over the years from people who know more about Ultima code than I do and it falls perfectly in line with my actual game experience.

Stealing items from monsters wasn't a feature until long after UO:R.

I was talking about town gates, even well into trammel you could steal and go through those.

The random item thing is like apples or whatnot if you stole from an orc

Stacked items, if there is 10 pearl in a pack, I shouldn't have to steal it 4 times to get all 10, this is going to hurt thieves vs mages in pvp

well before trammel was introduced i made a thief mage. thieves could steal 11 stones with GM skill.

you could ALWAYS use town moongates when stealing, a lot of thieves would hide on the moongates and steal your stuff and go through. this was around before you could pick where you wanted to go on the towns menu and after.

you could definitely steal the maximum amount of stones in a stack, because thats how most people macro'd stealing, by adding 1 to the pile every increment of 10 skill and stealing off your pack horse.

you could always steal items other than gold from monsters. you would often steal the scrolls off monsters before getting the gold...

this should really be addressed as it is a big part of uo before trammel.

thief/mage template was a really fun part of the game whether it be stealing all of one reg off your opponent or disarming and stealing their weapon. the only weapon that is too heavy to be stolen is a hally.
