Thought I would post an idea on the forums while the server was down. Because UOR is set in a particular era, it will be hard to use any of the OSI content released after that period, so expanding lands might be hard to do, especially when you have to create your own new models and then get people to patch with those new models somehow. I had an idea, not sure how this would roll but basically, Ruinous town rediscovered on an island somewhere, underneath is a whole city, kind of like atlantis, could only be accessible by boat or something like that, could be a good area for a new Dungeon? New Monsters? New Rares? New Bosses? New Quests? Maybe a new item as well (something like a glacial ice staff?) Anyway, just throwing it out there.
Ideas for spicing up the shard are always good but I don't think you'll find too much support for new lands, dungeons or rares among UOR members. Most of us are here because we love this era and don't want to see it destroyed by unnecessary tweaks. That being said, a minor change may be accepted by the player-base if implemented correctly (ie: ore golems, Ocllo dungeons.) So keep the ideas coming I'd just recommend keeping them small, as to not scare people, and detailed enough so that people can thoughtfully weigh in on them.
Im not suggesting a new land, just a new city, say underneath the surface with the theme of a lost city of sosaria still in the land of britania. I think we can all agree that the map split of Tram/Fel was the worst thing to ever happen to UO, followed closely by too much new stats and attack modifiers on weapons and armor. I doubt that those mistakes will ever be made again. Plus its not Hybrid where things get out of hand.
I like your ambitions MauganRa, but Baine is correct that such a change would not be very well supported here. It is not that this server wont accept new ideas, its just VERY careful about them. The server is based on the view that things like: custom housing, skill/weapon additions, and many other game expansions just made the game worse or unbalanced in some way. If another area or city was added, it might have all kinds of balance changes on factions, farming, and other unforeseeable consequences that players may disagree with. I encourage you to explore and enjoy the content this server has to offer, as it is already quite vast!
In principle I could support the idea, but I cant imagine that anybody has played through all of the possibilities here. There are so many ways to play here, another ruin/dungeon shouldnt be to necessary. But maybe for some kind of limited Atlantis style event? Or as location for the to-be-developed endgame AMIB style content for thieves/rogues?
I don't think the idea is bad, but I would modify it somewhat. Instead of an entire city, could use one of the ruins already on the map as an entry way. Perhaps to Dungeon Doom. That dungeon had been in the works for ages...Don't know why it was never developed. but, back to your idea. Perhaps could be a warrior only dungeon... Magic (except recall by scroll) and tamers don't work inside. to access the entry would be via perhaps slaying of the "Guardian" once slayed, the entrance opens. LOl Guess I modified your idea quite a bit... Sorry My thoughts on it would be Doom is already part of the history of UO, Dexxors and other warrior styles would have something more to do. LOL ya got my imagination going. thanks for the inspiration. And yes... please keep the ideas coming Westra
Personally, I'm not a stickler for era accuracy at all. New content keeps the game fresh, I'm all for it. Just gotta be smart about how it is implemented and how it affects existing systems.
Yea it was purly just an idea I had, thought I would share it. New content is important, you litterly cant play the same game for the rest of your life, if you do then your not creating any kind of excitement. but there is already new content coming out on this server so thats good. I liked the melee only dungeon idea, but was thinking along the lines of a more themed city, like ruin and perhaps under the ocean? Like to get there you might need to sail, but lets say theres a small hole in the surface of an island. Dunno just throwing it out there. Playing with ideas is fun.
