I want to do some crafting and make money with it. What is the best choice?

I plan on making three crafting characters, because I find the activity relaxing. However, if they don't actually make any decent money I will want to make like a some miners or lumber jacks instead...

So out of Alchemy, Tailoring, Smithy, Inscription, Carpentry, Tinkering- what are the best to make for someone who doesn't have a lot of gold now but wants to make some?

Start with three tailors and get them pulling BoDs as soon as you hit 70.1 Tailoring. You can pull one bod, per account, every 6 hours by saying "Order status" to an any NPC tailor.

After that...build a battle miner because it's the only way you'll satiate the requirements for building 3x blacksmiths to do Blacksmith BoDs with.

You can make millions of gold with BoDs, if you're lucky and/or persistent.

The best way to get colored ore is gargoyle shovels which do not need mining to use. Gargoyle pickaxes which yield stone crafting stuff do need mining though. Bods can be a long and tedious path to great wealth

Oh yeah, sorry I totally forgot that you don't even need MINING SKILL AT ALL IN ANY WAY TO GET THE MOST COLORED INGOT PRODUCTION ON UOR.

    Say what?

You referring back to the gargoyle thing I hear people talk about?

You will however need a miner to smelt the ore

Yep, and you will likely need your own smith to get the colored shovels. You'll rarely see them for sale on vendors.

If you want, to get started, can make a miner/smith character. Sell items to npc blacksmith. Won't make a fortune right off, but decent gold. This is a very old school way of making gold...:) From back in the day you couldn't afk macro skills.
You can make one craft character do multi crafting. Example: Tailor, smith carpentry. This leaves room for magic to recall and gate
If you don't wish to make this character full mage, can work up enough magic so that can recall or gate from scrolls.
As suggested above. I would make a battle miner as well. This character, again, enough magic to recall/ gate using scrolls.
Also, as suggested above, Make at least one craft character for each account.
Don't forget fletching, At some point in the future I believe staff intends to put in fletching and carpentry bods. Also, arrows and bolts sell well to other players.

I would also make a lumberjack, to harvest the wood for your carpenter and fletcher. Give this character swords as well. When using double handed axes weapon, Lumber Jack adds a bonus.

I too find crafting relaxing and fun... ( expect when making exceptional plate or studded armor, lol )

Best of luck for you and enjoy

You say it's long and tedious, what quicker paths do you know of?

Thanks very helpful. I was just joking in that last thread by the way.

Barding really stresses me out... I'm looking for a good way to make money that also delivers a Bob Ross level of serenity.

Also, is there any sort of event calendar so I can tell when the next CTF match is and stuff? I want to do more PVP related things, but no one is ever at the pit and Ive missed all the CTF events so far.

If you are looking to pvp why not try a consensual field based pvp outlet such as order/chaos or factions?

So if you're looking to be bored and make money in a boring way, do 6x crafters running bods. If you're looking to play the game and enjoy UO, start a vendor.

If you're considering running a vendor, you'll need to GM in as many crafting professions as you can as variety = sales.

Because the schedule is tentative/in development and the only way they really happen is on the whims of @Chris or when people beg him enough in IRC to start one.

    Or...

You could get into real estate, scoop up prime vendor house locations where you can and rent vendor space to other players.
I just had one inexplicably quit the game and leave 3 vendors full of very good stuff.

    Or...

Set up your own vendors with goods that you bought (perhaps) @ bulk with a bulk discount then dole out at average price for a slight profit with little effort.
